McCann has had considerable experience in evaluating electrical engineering patents for competitive analysis both from the point of view of looking at existing patents to see if they presented any areas of conflict with business intentions, and with looking at drafts, in conjunction with expert patent attorneys to set up justifiable, realistic and useful claims.
Seen from an engineering point of view, there are issues with interpretation of patents, with assessment of their relevance, with understanding the claims and with relating the claims to the business implications. There may also be issues of validity which need to be addressed, especially if someone is claiming you are infringing.
In the end, you will probably need a patent attorney's professional view, but getting the dialog going and managing it isn't easy. If you are thinking that it's too difficult and a bridge between the engineering and the patenting (or vice-versa) is needed, then maybe McCann can help. Chances are McCann has been there already!
